BNC/TS2 Server
| posted
by SparKeh | 11-8-2008 | 10:27 | Server News |
|
All services are now online and all BNCs should be connected. If you find your BNC is not operating correctly please submit a support ticket and we can look at it for you.
The maintenance took longer to complete than expected and after running into difficulties we decided to move all services on this machine to another server. We managed to restore most of the data from the disk fail although users may see a problem changing vhosts over the next few days while DNS propagates.

Ventrilo upgrade completed
| posted
by SparKeh | 16-11-2007 | 19:12 | Server News |
|
All Ventrilo servers have now been upgraded to 3.0.0. Please read more.
All Ventrilo servers have now been upgraded to 3.0.0. There was approximately 2 minutes downtime. Ventrilo have reported some issues with 3.0.0 and hope to release a 3.0.1 server patch shortly so another upgrade may be due within the week.
Also a common issue people have been experiencing is that if more than 1 user from the same IP address is trying to connect to the same server then they get rejected as the default setting is not allowing duplicate IPs on the guest accounts. To fix this login as server admin and right click on the window then go to;
Server Admin > User Editor > (Guest) Account > Network Tab > Duplicate IP's > No Limit
As far as I am aware this setting will be changed in the 3.0.1 patch.
If you are experiencing any other problems with your server or if it is not responding please submit a support ticket at https://secure.taa-online.com

ISP Network Upgrade: At risk & Maintenance notifications
| posted
by SparKeh | 7-11-2006 | 17:25 | Server News |
|
Our ISP are upgrading their network this weekend therefore there will be some downtime. Below is an email from our ISP detailing the downtime dates and times.
Hello,
As part of our continuing upgrade program we will be performing the following works:
AT RISK PERIOD:
SATURDAY 11TH NOVEMBER 2006 10:00-10:30
DESCRIPTION OF WORKS:
We are installing a multi-gigabit line card into rt0.the.core.lchost.net - while this should be transparent (the line cards are supposed to be hot insertable) there is still a slight risk that routing operations may be disrupted by the installation of the card.
This card will be used to facilitate the upgrades of access switch uplinks to 1Gbps which will eliminate any current risk of congestion on the busier access switches.
BACKOUT:
Should inserting the line card cause problems that cannot be worked around the work and the below windows will be abandoned.
MAINTENANCE PERIOD:
SATURDAY 11TH NOVEMBER 2006 11:00-11:10
DESCRIPTION OF WORKS:
Insertion of a GBIC into CAS2, and then the switch over to a gigabit uplink. This will cause an outage for all customers connected to CAS2 whilst the uplink is moved. This Customer Access Switch serves customers in TFM40 H15.
Outage should only be a few minutes as all ports will be preconfigured and it should just be a case of moving the cable over.
BACKOUT:
Should the switch not accept the gigabit interface module, or the link prove to be unstable in some manner, the switch will be returned to previous configuration until a replacement parts can be provisioned.
AT RISK/DEGRADED SERVICE PERIOD:
SATURDAY 11TH NOVEMBER 2006 12:00-12:30
DESCRIPTION OF WORKS:
Rearrange transit feeds to better suit the new network topology. Feeds will be shut down cleanly, so there should not be any significant loss or latency increases. There may be a few minutes of instability or unreachability for
international customers, depending on how the works proceed. This work will affect customers who take service from us over the Datahop Ring.
BACKOUT:
Should any problems occur, the network will be returned to its original state |

This IP change affects everyone! Please read more.
On Saturday (19/11/05) we will be changing the IP addresses on all of our hardware. If you use hostnames to connect to our servers and services (e.g. kitten.taa-gaming.com) you should not have to change anything. However it may take a few hours for the DNS to propagate.
This change is happening at approximately 14:00. All servers will need to be rebooted but we will try to keep downtime to a minimum.
The new IP's are as follows:
kitten.taa-gaming.com > 213.230.206.4
lynx.taa-gaming.com > 213.230.206.100
tiger.taa-gaming.com > 213.230.206.101
leopard.taa-gaming.com > 213.230.206.102
cheetah.taa-gaming.com > 213.230.206.103
Vhosts for our BNC clients will not work for a short time while we update their IPs as well at a later stage. If you have any problems connecting to our services on Saturday evening please contact us.

MORE Network Maintenance
| posted
by SparKeh | 25-10-2005 | 17:06 | Server News |
|
As mentioned in my previous post our ISP LCHost have been upgrading their core network, they have come across a couple of problems and need to carry out some emergency fixes. This will not effect many of you, but please read more.
If you are a night crawler then this will effect you. Please read the statement below from LCHost.
"After installing the new core it appears we've come across an
unfortunate bug in the Extreme switch firmware. Unfortunately we did not
have access to the updated firmware and thus were unable to perform the
upgrade during the maintenance window.
Unfortunately the impact of this apparent bug is that we are unable to
reliably sutain a link between our two routers and hence we are
operating without peering at present (potentially increasing latency and
loss).
We will be performing maintenace between 2:00 am and 3:30 am to upgrade
the firmware on this switch which due to the age of the firmware in
question will be quite a lengthy process.
Whilst this work takes place there will be a complete loss of service to
all customers serviced by AS25098 in Telehouse East.
We apologise for this continued interruption of service, but we are only
carrying out the work as an absolute necessity in order to be able to
provision the best posible service quality to you.
Regards,
Phillip Baker
LCHost Chief Technical Officer" |

DNS Issues

Overnight we have been experiencing some difficulties with our DNS server on our web machine. This may cause our website to be slow. For those of you who use hostnames connecting to our services – you may also find this slow or timing out. Read more to find out how to fix this.
We hope to have this issue resolved soon, however if you are having problems connecting to a service we provide please use the IP address to connect instead of the hostname.
For those of you on our Ventrilo or BNC services that are having problems connecting, use the IP 213.230.205.254 follow by your port. This will be instead of using dediXX.vent.taa-gaming.com and kitten.taa-gaming.com.
If you are having problems connecting to your game server then use the IP listed in your email, rather than the hostname. A quick list of those IP’s is below.
Lynx >> 213.230.205.220
Puma >> 213.230.205.221
Tiger >> 213.230.205.223

Network upgrades & Ventrilo pricing update
| posted
by SparKeh | 6-3-2005 | 17:37 | Server News |
|
In line with upgrade plans additional transit to Europe was enabled earlier this weekend. This will lower pings considerably between our network and European ISP's. This is also partly responsible for our Ventrilo packages seeing a small price increase as of today. All clients are urged to read this post in full. Read on for more details.
We've already received very encouraging responses regarding the additional transit. It my take several days for external networks to properly utilise the transit. Once complete all western European countries (particularly Scandinavia) should see a marked reduction in latency.
We have today updated our Ventrilo pricing. To cut a long story short, after re-evaluating our pricing in detail earlier in the year we concluded only 2 choices availed themselves - continue providing service on existing hardware/transits at existing rates or upgrade. The decision was made to upgrade and reflect any increase in costs subsequently, so here we are.
All existing contracts will of course be honoured. New pricing will apply only when your Ventrilo comes up for renewal. Our system will automatically bill clients at the new rate. Clients with special arrangements regarding renewal pricing should contact us as soon as possible via irc or email to confirm their renewals. |

New server and port movement
| posted
by SparKeh | 25-2-2005 | 16:02 | Server News |
|
This weekend will see the addition of a new server to our network. This server will be used to move several existing clan ports off older hardware to their now new home. All clients are required to read this post. Please read on for more details.
Our new server "leopard" will be brought online in a production state sometime this coming weekend. Leopard is a dual Intel P4 Xeon 2.8ghz machine with 2gb of ram. This server will provide a new home to several clan ports hosted on older servers. This server addition is primarily for our convenience but is part of our long term upgrade plans. We constantly monitor the performance of our clan ports and with each steam update have to quantify our hardware's suitability to it's tasks.
In light of this, servers puma and lion are being decommissioned as soon as their ports are moved to leopard. Lynx ports will also be moved to leopard but the server will remain with us for development usage. All clients affected by these moves will receive an email with updated details, please inform all of your users of the updated server address and port as soon as possible. The old ports will not be run concurrently and will go down within a few hours of the move over. We apologise for any inconvenience caused, no downtime is expected however.
Puma and Lion servers are now available for resale. Before dispensing with these servers via normal channels we are offering them for purchase directly. Both servers are Intel Pentium P4 2.4ghz machines with 1gb of ram and 80gb hard drives. They can be purchased for delivery to you (shipping chargeable) or moved to any data centre in Telehouse east, docklands free of charge. We can also offer excellent discounted colocation packages directly to any purchaser. People interested should email support for details or ask in #taa-gaming (quakenet) for details.

Scoutz server moved + new publics soon!
| posted
by SparKeh | 3-10-2004 | 12:03 | Server News |
|
We have moved the 24/7 ScoutzKnivez public to another server appliance. The new servers IP is 213.230.205.253:27050 or cheetah.taa-gaming.com:27050. This
will be its permanent ongoing home from this point onwards. Please read on for more details.
This move of the Scoutz server to cheetah is just the beginning. We are planning to provide 4 CS 1.6 custom map servers in total within the next few days. At this time we can confirm servers running fy_iceworld and aim_ak_colt.
We have yet to decide on the final map yet.
We are testing the latest CS Source (CS:S) server and will be offering 2 publics as soon as it comes out of beta, possibly sooner. Dust on it's own is a tad boring though
These publics will not quite be 24/7 servers, as they will not be available during UKCSL league hours. This is an effective use of resources as most of our community also play in the UKCSL, making those periods the quietest times
anyway. Outside league seasons these publics will all be 24/7 servers.
This is the preliminary stage of a number of upgrades and changes to the TAA-Gaming service base. More details to come in a separate news post. Check the hosting section.

Scheduled server moves

Server appliances Lynx, Puma, Lion and Tiger will be changing IP and cabinet on 24th of April 2004. Servers Kitten, Panther, Jaguar and Cheetah will also be powered down temporarily. All hosted clans are required to read this post in full.
As mentioned certain servers will be changing IP's after relocation. The new IP's are listed below, please update any information requiring IP's asap after the changeover. We recommended all clans use appliances given hostnames rather than IP's, they are just as effective, easier to remember and never require updating.
Kitten, Panther, Jaguar and Cheetah will be powered down so our servers can be organised more effficiently in their cabinets. This is a minor undertaking and these servers should only be offline for a short while.
LYNX NEW IP :: 213.230.205.220 :: lynx.taa-gaming.com
PUMA NEW IP :: 213.230.205.221 :: puma.taa-gaming.com
LION NEW IP :: 213.230.205.222 :: lion.taa-gaming.com
TIGER NEW IP :: 213.230.205.223 :: tiger.taa-gaming.com
We expect engineers to complete works by midnight at the latest on Saturday April 24th. We advise all clans not to arrange clan matches from 12 noon to midnight.
This move is a matter of convenience for us. Network performance will remain the same as previous but stability should improve. |

Web admins, Ventrilo & Servers
| posted
by Vapor | 27-3-2004 | 12:55 | Server News |
|
We have this morning made some updates to the web admin system and the Ventrilo servers. Lynx and Lion have had some love and attention too. All clients are urged to read this article in full. Read on for more details.
WEB ADMINS
The updates to the web admins are minor. Firstly the menu on the left has been modified and clan names are no longer shown, only the server name and port. Clans seem to change their names every week and editing them all the time was becoming annoying :)
Secondly, as previously mentioned all admin and demo pages are now housed under ones roof, select your port from the "Admin" section on the left menu and use the links "Server Admin", "HLTV Admin" and "Demos List" on the pages to access each section.
Thirdly, it seems people found it hard to navigate into the HLTV and demos sections so all 3 sections now share a common header with links to the other pages. Clans who decided to keep the passwords for both server and hltv logins the same will be able to switch between those pages without being asked to re-login.
VENTRILO
Our Ventrilo Pro license came through late last week and we have been working on updating all servers to the new platform. All rented channels have already been updated and available for use. All clients will need to update to the 2.2 client available at www.ventrilo.com
This update does have a direct impact on our public and mix channels however as under the new license agreement these are now included within our license fee. Previous licensing allowed the provision of servers which were absolutely 100% free (no associations or ties) to be excluded from payments, this is now not the case. We will still be providing mix and public channels to the community free of charge, there will simply be less of them.
We are still updating the public and mix servers and have yet to decide on the number of channels / slots we'll be providing. We'll post further details when available.
The low ventrilo server has moved box and ip. Clients connecting using the proper address of low.vent.taa-gaming.com will not need to change server, only the port. All servers are now run on the Ventrilo default port of 3784. Full details of our Ventrilo servers are below:
high.vent.taa-gaming.com - Rented High Ventrilo Channels
low.vent.taa-gaming.com - Rented Low Ventrilo Channels
admin.vent.taa-gaming.com - Admin Ventrilo Channels
public.vent.taa-gaming.com - Public Ventrilo Channels
mix.vent.taa-gaming.com - Mix Ventrilo Channels
SERVERS - LYNX & LION
Final works to lynx and lion were completed Friday afternoon. Full backups taken 1 hour before the reformat were restored in full and clans hosted on these appliances need not change a thing, everything is back to normal.
Minor additional works are to be scheduled for Lion. This is a precautionary measure only and will not affect ongoing service. We will post any further details if necessary but do not expect any downtime in this case. |

In an effort to reduce the amount of spam we receive we have modified all standard email addresses. Read on for more details.
It seems any company with an online presence suffers at the hands of spammers. Regardless of the number of sophisticated spam solutions in place spam still gets through.
In an effort to reduce spam we have changed all primary email addresses. These include our sales, support, accounts and marketing addresses but not any user accounts. Please see the ABOUT >> SERVERS >> CONTACT page for updated addresses.
The old email addresses will remain in place until the end of this weekend but will then be disabled. Please update your address books etc. promptly. |
